On Sunday 24 June Wasim Akram, the left arm pace legend and IPL 2012 champion coach, visited Luton town for the first time ever to conduct a fast bowling master class through the Cricket Plus Academy. The event was hosted at Barnfield South Academy. Wasim Akram and Faisal Khan were given a warm welcome by the Principal of Barnfield South Academy, Catherine Bar, Vice Principal, John Lincoln and Taj Hussain, Area Youth Worker, before proceeding with two sessions of the fast bowling Master Class. Wasim worked on the basics of fast bowling with the young talent and gave some invaluable tips to batsmen before wowing the crowd by bowling his traditional in-swinging Yorker. Wasim said: "I was so pleased to see the young talent in both sessions and appreciate the time their parents and coaches spend with them to help them achieve their cricketing goals.
"I hope they will take the basics I taught them and follow them through all the way to improve their bowling skills further. They all have lots to achieve and I wish them all the best and look forward to seeing them again in future." The participants, their parents and coaches had travelled from Luton, east London, Leicester, Manchester, Southampton, Rutland, Peterborough and beyond. Faisal said: "We at Cricket Plus Academy were privileged to have received great support and facilities by Barnfield South Academy management and youth worker Taj Hussain. "The community was witness to the committed involvement of Barnfield South Academy and the support of their students in extracurricular activities." Wasim will be back at Cricket Plus Academy next year to conduct some more exciting Master Classes and will be working with the youth and local community along with Faisal and Cricket Plus team.
