Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)

JSA (Jobseeker's Allowance) is available to most people who are currently unemployed and actively seeking work.


Am I eligible?

To claim JSA you must:

  • work on average less than 16 hours a week
  • normally be aged 18 or over
  • not be in full-time education

16 to 17 years olds

JSA isn't usually paid to 16 or 17 year olds or people in full-time education, except in certain circumstances. Contact your local Jobcentre Plus for advice (see below for Jobcentre Plus Luton contact details).

How much will I get?

If you're aged 16 to 24, depending on your circumstances, you could get up to £56.25 per week.*

How to claim

You can claim Jobseeker's Allowance:

  • online (GOV.UK)
  • by calling Jobcentre Plus on 0800 055 6688 if you can’t apply online

You must attend an interview at your local Jobcentre Plus to complete your claim. If you apply online, you'll get a text or phone call within 2 working days to arrange this.
