Choosing where to study

world map on a black bored

Many students apply to local universities or colleges, or ones within a reasonable distance of home. This may be for financial reasons or to be close to family, but there are lots of other factors to consider.

Would you prefer the place of study to be

  • small or large?
  • a self-contained campus with all services inside or part of a city or town with facilities in different places?
  • in a particular part of the country?
  • easy to get to by public transport?
  • university or college? (Some further education colleges offer part or whole degree courses in partnership with a local university.)

The Complete University Guide, www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk is a good place to start researching where to study, where you can look through league tables.

If you’re thinking about studying outside the UK you’ll find useful information, contact details and links from The British Council on www.educationuk.org.
